A: Elijah Jamal is my birth name given to me by my mother and father.

Q: How did you get into performing and singing?

A: I grew up singing in the church with my family, so it was always a part of my upbringing.

Q: What was the inspiration for making Little Secret?

A: I wanted to write a modern and non-traditional song about a proposal that became the premises of a little secret. The secret is the proposal.

A: There is an album in the works. Most likely won’t be out until 2021

Q: When did you leave Chicago?

A: I moved from Chicago to California in June of 2015.

Q: What did you leave behind on your journey?

A: I left everything except my instruments, computer, and clothes. I left everyone I knew to pursue my passion—one of the best decisions I ever made.

Q: How has marriage changed or enhanced your life?

A: I’m not even sure I know how marriage has changed or enhanced my life. I will say I have learned a lot about myself, what it means to love someone, and the reality that most of us don’t know what it means to love unconditionally.

Q: Does your music inspire people?

A: I certainly hope so. I write and sing to inspire others, so; it’s always encouraging and humbling to know that there are people that have found inspiration from something I’ve created.

Q: Is music a part of your soul, meaning does it replenish your soul?

A: I would agree that music is a part of my soul. It’s always been about music for me. I’ve never desired to be or do anything else.

Q; When did you know you had the gift to excite the crowd, bring people together, and inspire?

A: When I was in college, I had an opportunity to perform at the Arie Crown Theater in front of about 3,000 people. Truly one of the happiest moments of my life.

Q: What is the legacy that you want to leave behind?

A: The most significant legacy I could leave behind is love. The power of love is stronger than anything we can imagine. To know, love is to be truly limitless.

Q: What is your favorite song that uplifts the spirit and soul that you made?

A: I would say my song “Stand Up” is my favorite song, uplifting in so many ways. Sometimes I get goosebumps listening to it. It’s like I didn’t even write it. I was just a tool used to bring the message to life.

Q: What was your favorite memory of AJ Photography?

A: I would say performing at this spot in downtown Chicago with my brother and friend Tim Jackson. AJ Photography was always there to capture those priceless moments
