Simone Green R&B Singer

Updated: Feb 6, 2021

1) When did you know you had the gift to sing?

I knew I had a gift when I was in the 9th grade and won the talent show.

2) How long have you been singing?

I have been singing for as long as I can remember. I used to sing every song on the radio as a kid (it got on my siblings nerves lol). If I had to give an age, I would say since I was 6 or 7.

3) What was your favorite set ?

I have performed so much over the years that it would be difficult to pin it down. However, I enjoy performing at M Lounge more than any other place. It's an intimate space and I always feel connected and engaged with the audience. There's no better feeling when you lose yourself in the moment. That happens a lot for me at M Lounge.

4) Do you have an album out?

No, I don't have an album out right now but I'm writing and working on a few songs that I hope will be released before the end of the year.

5) Have you performed your own music?

Yes, I have. When I was in college, I began singing with the band Shade of Blue and we released an album that includes a song I wrote. With that band, we were inducted in the Iowa Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. We still get together annually and perform some of those original songs. Always a great time!

6) What motivates you everyday?

I'm motivated by living and being happy! I'm so grateful and blessed to be above ground and I try not to let the challenges in life keep me down. I'm a two time breast cancer survivor and I believe that positive thinking helped me deal with it and not dwell in self pity.

7) How does it feel to be Nominated for black history Month?

I'm truly honored to be recognized for my gift. I absolutely love what I do and it feels great to be nominated.

8) What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are positive, self-affirming and loving.

9) What would be your legacy?

I hope that my legacy is that I made people smile, feel good and forget about their problems when they were in my presence. I am a half full kind of girl and always try to see the upside.

10) What took so long for you to build your sets and get noticed?

I don't think it took too long. It's a matter of getting out there and meeting as many people in the industry as possible.

11) Do you write your own music and what is going on for the future?

Yes, I'm currently writing a few songs and I hope to have them released this year. I'm eager to get back on stage in front of a live audience and look forward to that happening this summer.
